Rick Steves Tours Prague at Night

Did You Know?

Around the year 1800, four separate towns came together to form the city of Prague. Even today, each of these areas of Prague has its own personality and each of them should be included in your itinerary when visiting Prague. The four towns are:
  • Castle Quarter (Hradčany)
  • Lesser Town (Malá Strana)
  • Old Town (Staré Město)
  • New Town (Nové Město)

"If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay home."

Technical Stuff

For those interested in the technicalities, most of the pictures on the website - and all the little videos - were taken with my old, trustworthy 5mp Canon PowerShot A95. My son and my daughter have matching Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR cameras. So they take the higher quality pictures, while I am more into quantity ;).

As for the website, the photos were edited and resized using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6. I used Microsoft's FrontPage 2003 as the website editor and Adobe Premiere Elements 4 as the video editor.

Wallpaper

Here's a few of our favorite scenic pictures from the trip to Prague. We sized each of them in several of the most popular computer video resolutions. They really do make beautiful desktop wallpapers!

Prague Castle At Night - Breathtaking!

We stopped by this castle in the village of Cesky Sternberk on the way to Kutná Hora. The castle is from the 13th century and was owned by an old noble family by the name of Sternberk. It was confiscated by the Communists after WW2 and given back to the family after the Velvet Revolution. Mr. Zdenek Sternberk lives there now, but the castle is open for visitors. Katka has met him in person and says he is a very nice old man. The castle and surrounding countryside have a moody, Gothic feel which transports you to another time & place. If you let it.

We loved this picturesque little chapel dedicated to St. Clara. It's on a hill overlooking the Troja Chateau and has vineyards extending down the hill towards the chateau. Wine tasting is available at the Chateau for those who would like to try out some Czech wines.

The views of Prague from Castle Hill are truly spectacular! We particularly enjoyed the views from the garden near the Strahov Monastery. But beautiful vistas are around every corner when strolling through the Castle Quarter. This picturesque archway caught our eye, so we snapped several photos here. Glorious view!

Katka gave each of us a small bottle of Becherovka, a Czech herbal liqueur, at our memorable (and delicious!) farewell dinner. My daughter lined up the bottles on the dinner table and took this photo.
